Government of Cuba has come up with municipal grants and loans for the home improvement needs of Cubans who are financially inefficient for the same. The hurricane attacks in Cuba have destroyed thousands of homes. Cubans can now receive municipal loans to buy building materials and for the labor costs for their home improvement. The home improvement plans also include the renovation as well as expansion of their houses.
Almost 4,900 applications, asking guidance and assistance for home improvement loans were received after the declaration of this plan by the council of ministers. Out of these applications, 1,340 were approved. The citizens who fall in the category of receiving benefits from the home improvement subsidies include the people who live in poor housing conditions, almost homeless as well as people needing repair and maintenance of their houses. This assistance program came into practice from 15th of January. The government of Cuba took these steps to bring solutions to the serious housing shortage in Cuba. The authorities have legalized the sale of building materials as well as was the buying and selling of houses, which wasn't authorized before. Nearly 20 % of the citizens in Cuba receive assistance from the Social Security system so that they don't fall in the category of extreme poverty.
